The Chorale was founded in September, 1983 to provide musically inclined residents of the Emmaus
area with an opportunity to sing both classical and light choral music. While still based in Emmaus, the
Chorale draws experienced singers from throughout the Lehigh Valley. We sing both sacred and secular
music of all musical periods and styles, including spirituals, Broadway, jazz-inspired and light classical
works. The Chorale presents two concerts each year at Faith Presbyterian Church but also performs on
other occasions and in other venues.
Janet Davis, Artistic Director, has enjoyed an extensive conducting career which includes being the Di-
rector of Music for several large church programs with choirs of over 100 voices, as well as being the Ar-
tistic Director of several auditioned and non-auditioned community choirs. Notably, Janet was the Artis-
tic Director/Conductor of the Des Moines Choral Society, an auditioned 65-voice choir when the ensem-
ble was awarded the Iowa Arts Council's Best Performing Group in 2001. She has conducted numerous
choral/orchestral masterworks with massed choirs of over 300 voices and full orchestras, including Stra-
vinsky's Symphony of Psalms at Carnegie Hall.
Janet has a Masters in Music degree, with distinction, in conducting from Westminster Choir College in
Princeton, New Jersey, where she was invited to become a member of the conducting faculty upon her
graduation. She also holds two Bachelor of Music degrees, summa cum laude, in Conducting and in
Voice Performance from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. In addition to the Des Moines Cho-
ral Society, she has directed the Alexandria Choral Society, and two choirs at Princeton University - the
Princeton Madrigal Society and the Princeton Camerata.
